Its hard living in an A-League fantasy world

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

I’m a big fan of fantasy football although usually not that good, unless you count my performance in selecting a bunch of twats at Euro 2008. Any of recent times I have been trying to pick my fantasy teams for the start of both the A-League and the English Premier League seasons and have noticed a disparity in the points allocated to players in the A-League. Its extremely difficult to pick a decent squad with your allocated 100 points. See below for my comparison between the two teams I have picked.

A-League Fantasy Team (One Minute Wonders)

Covic (8.0), de Vere* (4.5), McKain (7.5), Djulbic (6.5), Thwaite (8.0), Lopez (6.0), McKay (11.0), Miller (8.0), Pantelis (10.0), Smeltz (13.0), Hoffman (7.5), and Cristiano (10.0)

EPL Fantasy Team (One Minute Wonders)

    Friedel (5.5), Schwarzer* (4.0), Laursen (6.0) Lescott (7.0), Clichy (6.5), Meite* (4.5), McShane* (4.0), Davies (6.0), Essien (8.0), Ireland (5.5), Fabregas (10.0), Hamann* (4.5), Torres (12.0), Santa Cruz (9.0) and Carew (7.5)

As you can firstly see I’m not really imaginative with the naming of my teams but as I have said above the points allocated by Fox Sports to players makes it really difficult to put together a quality balanced squad. Maybe they could take a leaf out of the Premier League’s system, which in my opinion is one of the best fantasy leagues going around.

Anyway if you want to challenge my One Minute Wonders for the A-League don’t forget to enter your team in the84thminute A-League fantasy football league. For all the details check out the84thminute site.

      Living in a fantasy world

Last A-League I hosted a Blogger’s Cup as part of the Fox Sports A-League Fantasy Football competition, which if you didn’t catch the news was won by Eric from the MVFCBlog. Anyway I have decided to give it a miss this year as those crazy guys over at the84thminute have decided to do their own league and tipping competition through the aforementioned Fox Sports site. And this time its just not open to bloggers and people they know, its open to everyone. For all the details check out the84thminute site and see if you can prove that you know more about football than I do, which is probably not that hard.

All systems clear . . . we are go for launch
